Cycling: Sir Bradley Wiggins starts chase for Trentino victory
Team Sky won the time trial on day one of the Giro del Trentino in Italy as Sir Bradley Wiggins started his chase to become the first Briton to win the event. Team Sky beat Astana by 13 seconds in the second of two stages on the opening day, after a breakaway had earlier left the big names names behind, with Ag2r-La Mondiale rider Maxime Bouet winning the opening road stage. Wiggins and the other big names crossed the line inside the peloton with a significant six minutes and 51 seconds behind the leaders. CCC Polsat's Josef Cerny, just 19 years old, took the overall lead at the end of day one having finished second in the opening 128.5km road stage. Team Sky were the fastest in the 14.1km team time trial though and that saw Wiggins take 13 seconds out of Astana rival Vincenzo Nibali and 16 seconds off Lampre's Michele Scarponi by 16 seconds. Cadel Evans (BMC) and Ivan Basso (Cannondale) are further behind, trailing Wiggins by 49 seconds each. The Tour de France and Olympic time-trial champion has a good amount of work to do if he is to close the gap on the leaders in day two's 224.8km stage, which ends with a mountain-top finish in Vetriolo Terme. "I feel OK and confident," said Wiggins. "Tomorrow's test to Vetriolo will be really tough, but we are here to see where we can get, hopefully as high as possible." Wiggins has chosen to take part in this four-day event in northern Italy for its similarities to the Giro d'Italia, his main target of the 2013 season. Here are the odds at Bet365 for winning the Giro del Trentino: Maxime Bouet - 17/20 Michael Rodriguez - 5/2 Vincenzo Nibali - 6/1 Bradley Wiggins - 8/1 Michele Scarponi - 14/1
