Champions League: Juventus put three goals past Celtic
Celtic Galsgow were given a lesson of football on Tuesday evening as Italian champions Juventus paid them a visit in Scotland. Alessando Matri put the Italian side ahead early in the match end then Claudio Marchisio and Mirko Vucinic scored late goals to make the second leg totally secure for Juventus. Celtic didn't play that bad though, despite conceding an early goal they were dominant for large periods of the match. The home side looked more likely to score towards the end of the match but Juventus ruthlessly killed off the tie with two more goals. Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama had the first chance of the match inside the opening two minutes as he sent a powerful shot which Gianluigi Buffon turned round the post. But the home side was unable to capitalise on that good start due to an error in defence with just three minutes gone: a long ball from Federico Peluso went past Efe Ambrose, Matri picked it up and fired home through the legs of goalkeeper Fraser Forster. The home side replied with shots from distance by Wanyama and Kris Commons, both dealt with by world class goalkeeper Buffon. Juventus were looking comfortable in a defensive position, soaking up the pressure and threatening to strike on counter attacks. Celtic had the first clear cut chance of the match on the hour mark when Charlie Mulgrew's cross found Ambrose unmarked but his header went straight into the arms of Buffon. And they were punished severely for that miss as Marchisio fired home for Juventus before providing an assist for Vucinic to make it 3-0 from close range. Juventus can't lose their place in the quarter finals with this result, the return leg will be just a formality. The Italian champions are now priced at 9/1 to win the Champions League this season by Bet365, with Barcelona as favourited, priced at 2/1.
