Platinum Sports Betting Survives Raid and Returns Unscathed?
Despite being targeted by a massive police raid and seizure in Toronto during the Super Bowl last week, Platinum SB, reinstated its operations within hours with a new domain (the old one being seized by the authorities) that involves a new suffix - .tk. Interviewing one anonymous customer, the National Post publication learned that “Nothing has changed. Police are making a fool of themselves. This book will never be shut down.” In order to continue operating, the site PlatinumSB (.tk) moved to a domain from a self-governing South Pacific island of Tokelau. This apparently happened within hours from the raid, and Platinum's bookies were informing customers of the change even as the police were holding a press conference telling reporters the network had been “dismantled,” and six suspects arrested. Apparently, PlatinumSB acquired the Tokelau domain 12 years ago and held it in reserve for a situation like this. Later on, reports arrived that its sister site whose domain was also seized by the Canadian authorities, Betwho, reappeared with a Tokelau domain. The only comment on the situation issued by Royal Canadian Mounted Police was that further charges may be laid if it transpired that the same people were behind the new sites.
