Formula 1: Jenson Button wants Fernando Alonso to win title
McLaren's Jenson Button said he would prefer seeing Ferrari's Fernando Alonso winning the title this year rather than his rival Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. But Vettel goes into the final race of the season in Brazil this weekend as firm favourite as he is 13 points clear of Alonso in the drivers' classification. "Fernando has been the most consistent this year", Button said when asked about who he would prefer to see lifting the world title. "We all know how important that is, so probably Fernando. Just because he hasn't really made any mistakes." Alonso's Ferrari vehicle started the season 1.5 seconds off the pace. The car has improved since then but has never managed to become the quickest car in the dry. Despite that the Spaniard, a two-time champion, has produced good performances to stay in contention throughout the year which led him to say that it was his best season so far. Button said: "I said after the first race I don't think he's got a chance, and I didn't think he did. He was a second off. He's been consistently quick and done a very good job in the car he has. Seb has been more inconsistent. The last few races he has been fantastic, with a great car. If you look at the season as a whole, consistency really does mean a lot and it's good to see that Fernando has been that good at every race. Very impressive, actually, to see that performance at every race." Sebastian Vettel is the favourite to win the Brazilian GP, Bet365 have him at 2/1 for an outright win, while Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are each priced at 11/4.
