Is all publicity really good?
Many eyebrows were raised recently, when Linda Aldred, the grandmother of British Olympic gymnast Sam Oldham who won a bronze medal with his team at London Olympics, was denied the payout of a prize she won on her GBP 5 bet at 200 to 1 placed with Betfred.
It appears Betfred refused to pay Aldred for her correct belief that her grandson would win a medal on grounds that the medal was won in a team competition, not an individual event.
Why would such a big company deny the lady the joy of this relatively low pay out and base its decision on a minor technicality like this, risking its reputation and triggering a lot of negative media coverage, is still unknown.
