Update: Betfair Expands Its QR Code Marketing
Starting with volleyball, moving to boxing… Since its marketing strategy of putting QR Codes on the back of the bikini bottoms of two British beach volleyball champions proved successful, online betting exchange Betfair has expanded the strategy to involve boxing. Namely, this time they engaged Irish boxer Eamonn O'Kane, placing the QR Code on the front of his Betfair-branded boxer shorts, in which he will appear at the weigh-in of the Betfair Prizefighter Middleweight show in Belfast The fight fans that scan the QR code will be enabled to access the boxing betting markets via Betfair mobile. According to Betfair spokesman, Alex Blake, “The weigh-in is an important part of any fight and, from a betting perspective, will have an impact on our exchange prices. As the early favourite for the Middleweights crown all eyes will be on Eamonn, so any punter wanting to place a bet need just scan his pants.” In a comment on his new role, O'Kane said: “I've never thought of myself as an underwear model, but maybe I could have a second career when I retire from boxing.”
