TV remote as a betting tool
In its latest statement, Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has announced the launch of its Paddy Power Smart TV Application, which it claims will provide customers with the opportunity to browse and place available bets using their TV remote control.
The app, which provides registered users with betting odds updated in real time, depositing capabilities and access to their account details and betting history, was developed together with multi-platform digital media solution provider Miomni,
The company also added that in the future, they will include a more comprehensive range of betting types such as horse racing, soccer, rugby, cricket, basketball, American football, cricket, tennis, golf, snooker, darts as well as social and political events.
In addition, the application, which is currently available via the Yahoo Smart TV Widget on Samsung, LG, Sony and (US) Smart TVs in the UK and Republic of Ireland, will provide in a second iteration 'In Play" betting, through which users will be able to modify and place new bets while an event is in progress.
Stephen Lovell, online product & business development manager for Paddy Power stated regarding the new development: "We have created a close working relationship with Miomni that has enabled Paddy Power to produce arguably the best and most comprehensive Smart TV sports betting application currently on offer. They have delivered on all aspects of the project requirement to budget and to the agreed timescales. This relationship coupled with the technical foundation we now have in place will enable us to create and launch innovative digital services in 2012 and beyond."
