Dispute in two States delays decisions for online betting licence renewal
TwinSpires’s soon-to-expire online gambling licenses’ renewal have been delayed by the Californian and Illinois racing boards for the reason of further investigation into Churchill Downs Inc's (CDI) ongoing disagreement with the jockey trade organization The Jockeys' Guild (TJG) over funding issues.
Since 2007, Churchill Downs Inc has annually paid around $330 000 to The Jockey's Guild with the assurance that those funds would benefit jockeys directly and that they amount as much as other racetrack contributions. Unfortunately, they claimed, both the conditions have been violated.
As a significant, 23 percent revenue booster, TJG's challenge on CDI's online business represents a way to put a pressure for the resumption of payments to the fund. According to CDI, they are willing to do so if TJG can provide accounting evidence on the usage of the funds so far.
