Russian Hockey Team Parishes in Plane Crash

A private plane crashes shortly after take off carrying the Russian Professional Hockey Team killing 43 passengers. It has been declared one of the worst aviation disasters in sports history. Two people survived the accident but are in critical condition.

The plane struggled to gain altitude when it hit a signal tower and crashed along the Volga River outside of Moscow.

It was to be the first game of the season for the Russian team.

Very very sad day in sports.

That is really sad news.  Such an unnecessary loss of life - I suppose mechanical failure on some level is to blame or pilot error.  Either way, what a sad and tragic event.

It's a huge tragedy indeed and not the first of its kind in the history of sports. I remember that the whole Torino soccer squad died in a similar incident in 1949 and then the same thing happened to Manchester United in 1958... It's unbelievably sad because it touches huge numbers of people and not only the families and loved ones...
