The ironman Zurich is a really gruelling challenge for any athlete.

Ironman Zurich consists of a 2.4 mile lake swim, a 112 mile bike ride and finally, a full marathon...all one after the other!

I guess you're wondering why I'm talking about this gruelling race.  My reason for wanting to share this with you is this challenge has been taken on by my nephew, Ben.  Not because he wants to show off how fit he is, but purely to raise money for the Childrens Burns Trust (CBT), which is totally reliant upon charitable donations.  Unbelievably, no Govt funding is available.

Ben is a 28 year old fire fighter and even he is unable to expain how he got involved in the fund raising for this charity.   I'm positive Ben is just one of many thousands who raise money for charity but this one is special to me and I wanted to share it with you.

To all the sportsmen and women of the world who tirelessly train and work hard so they can raise money for charity, I take my hat off to you all and a big special thank you to Ben.

Have you ever raised money for a charity by competing in a sports event?  How does it make you feel when you have completed it?

Hats off to Ben, that's a mighty challenge and he is doing it for a great cause. I didn't take part in such events simply because there never was one close enough to where I live. But if something ever comes up and includes riding a bicycle then I'd surely be in! Wink

Thanks Rosebud.

I meant to say he has raised £1,267 so far and his target is £1500 so he is nearly there.

Since he started this he has done 6 Duathlons and 6 Triathlons as well as the Ironman in Zurich.  He is still out in Zurich now.
